The History of White People in America is a musical animated series that looks at race in the United States, in particular how the crafting of the idea of the White race — of whiteness — helped shape the nation’s history. Pierce Freelon is a co-director, writer and composer on the series, an Official Selection of the Tribeca Film Festival in the Animated Shorts category curated by Whoopi Goldberg. The series premiered on PBS and Independent Lens in 2020. Check out episodes 1-6 below!

Though not an official History of White People in America project, Pierce wrote and produced Episode 2 of the PBS Documentary titled Albina Vision Series — exploring the burdened history and the bright future of the Albina neighborhood in Portland, Oregon.
