As PBS Faces Cuts and AI Replaces Humans, Jamming on the Job Asks: Who’s Looking Out for the Next Generation?

New York, NY – May 5, 2025 – As public media faces funding cuts under the Trump administration’s executive order targeting PBS, Jamming on the Job - a music-packed family podcast that explores real-world careers through catchy songs and playful storytelling - stands as a crucial reminder of what’s at risk: the future of American workers.

With 26 million streams, 386K views, and 266K+ downloads, Jamming on the Job has already made a lasting impact with two seasons of its hit PBS KIDS podcast. Now, with a second album releasing June 2, the show’s creators - Pierce Freelon (Grammy nominated) and 123 Andrés (Grammy & Latin Grammy winners) - are asking: What happens when kids lose access to life-shaping educational content?

The album, Jamming on the Job, Vol. 2, blends music, career exploration, and life skills, introducing kids to real-world professions while reinforcing values like empathy and perseverance, and translatable skills, like teamwork and flexibility, that serve us no matter what our job is  Both the albums and podcast prepare children for a future shaped by AI and automation—but its impact is at risk if PBS funding is cut.

“Defunding PBS puts our children’s future at risk,” says Andrés. “Jamming on the Job shows kids they have a place in the workforce, and helps them get excited about jobs and understand what it takes to do them.”

Featuring Pierce as BoomBox, a lovable robot co-host, the show and album exposes listeners to professions across education levels and a gamut of industries and fields, exploring deep human skills like, critical thinking and creativity - skills that are less likely to be replaced by technology in the future. It champions curiosity while sparking big conversations about the future of work - including jobs, like Video Game Designer, in which technology plays a central role. Jamming on the Job also brings to the fore the role of public media in providing free, accessible educational content to all communities—something often overlooked by commercial platforms.

“At a time when AI is reshaping the job market, it’s vital to equip kids with the skills to imagine, prepare for, and create tomorrow’s jobs,” says Freelon. “Jamming on the Job isn’t just entertainment—it’s career readiness in a beat.”

As the workforce evolves, Jamming on the Job offers a glimpse into a more, imaginative future, in which everyone can participate. America needs shows like this now more than ever.
